Hairy abutilon is a naturalized shrub found in coastal and disturbed areas at elevations up to 1,000 meters. Flowering throughout the year, this plant produces yellow to orange flowers 10 to 15 millimeters long with distinctive red stigmas. Growing as a densely branched, rounded subshrub with erect stems 150 to 200 centimeters tall covered in simple hairs about 2 millimeters long. Its leaves have large heart-shaped blades 4 to 10 centimeters wide, unlobed and pointed at the tip. The fruit consists of 10 segments approximately 10 millimeters long, enclosed by a slightly larger calyx.
