Small leaved horsemint is a California native perennial found in the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau in woodland habitats at elevations of 1,400 to 2,200 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces delicate lavender or purple flowers in compact terminal clusters. Growing with upright stems 30 to 50 centimeters tall, it forms a bushy, slightly woody perennial herb. Its small leaves are opposite, with narrow lance-shaped blades 5 to 15 millimeters long, aromatic when crushed and characteristic of the mint family.
