Agave utahensis
Utah agave, Utah Agave
Family: Agavaceae · Type: shrub · Native
Utah agave is a native shrub found in desert regions at elevations where rocky, arid landscapes predominate. Flowering from June to September, this plant produces pale yellow to greenish flowers on dramatic tall raceme-like inflorescences reaching 2 to 4 meters high. Growing as a single dense rosette with no true stem, it features lance-linear leaves up to 30 centimeters long armed with sharp marginal teeth 4 to 12 millimeters long and a striking terminal spine 4 to 20 centimeters in length. Its leaves form a tight, architectural cluster with rigid, pointed edges that provide dramatic structural contrast in desert environments. The fruit measures 1 to 2.5 centimeters long, containing small seeds 2 to 4 millimeters in size.
