Agoseris grandiflora
Bigflower agoseris
Family: Asteraceae · Type: perennial · Native
Bigflower agoseris is a California native perennial herb found in open grasslands and meadows, typically growing from low to mid-elevation regions. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces bright yellow flowers with long, prominent ligules that nearly match the height of the flower head. Growing 25 to 100 centimeters tall with an erect habit, it develops distinctive purple-tinged petioles and leaves with 3 to 5 pairs of lobes angled toward the leaf tip. Its leaves are sparsely to densely hairy, with white-opaque hairs giving the foliage a soft, textured appearance. The fruit develops a thread-like, flexuous beak that can be up to three to four times the length of the seed body, creating a distinctive silhouette in grassland environments.
