Dill is a naturalized annual found in southwestern California in disturbed places at elevations generally below 1,000 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces small yellow flowers in delicate compound umbels with wide petals. Growing up to 2 meters tall with an erect, hollow, and branched stem, it has a distinctive anise-scented, glaucous herbage. Its leaves are pinnately dissected into fine, thread-like segments 4 to 20 millimeters long, creating a soft, feathery appearance.
