Rush pussytoes is a California native perennial found in alpine and subalpine areas at elevations likely between 2,000 to 3,500 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces white flowers in small, narrow clusters with straw-colored or pale phyllary bracts. Growing with stems 7 to 25 centimeters tall emerging from a partly woody base, it forms dense clumps without producing stolons. Its basal leaves are 18 to 45 millimeters long, grayish and woolly-textured, with 1 to 3 prominent veins. The plant produces tiny fruits 1 to 2 millimeters long with a delicate white pappus.
