Astragalus mohavensis var. mohavensis
Mojave milkvetch
Family: Fabaceae · Type: perennial · Native
Mojave milkvetch is a California native perennial found in the Mojave Desert on limestone habitats at elevations of 750 to 2,300 meters. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces delicate white to pale purple flowers in small clusters. Growing with spreading to ascending stems up to 30 centimeters tall, it forms a low-growing clump with a woody base. Its compound leaves have multiple small leaflets, typically 5 to 15 millimeters long, arranged pinnately along slender stems. The plant's ability to thrive on limestone substrates makes it a unique indicator of specialized desert mountain environments.
