Hoover's calycadenia is a rare (CNPS 1B.3) California native annual found in northern and central Sierra Nevada Foothill and San Joaquin Valley grasslands and oak savannas at elevations of 100 to 400 meters. Flowering from June to September, this plant produces delicate white ray flowers with asymmetric lateral lobes in small heads. Growing with slender, thread-like stems 10 to 60 centimeters tall that branch extensively and feature minute glandular surfaces, it spreads with flexible, intricately structured branches. Its proximal leaves are numerous, ranging 1 to 8 centimeters long, with thread-like branchlets that bear distinctive tack-like glands. The fruit develops with smooth or occasionally wrinkled surfaces, complemented by 6 to 13 lanceolate pappus scales.
