Calystegia sepium

Hedge bindweed, Hedge Bindweed

Family: Convolvulaceae · Type: perennial · Native

Hedge bindweed is a California native perennial vine found in various lowland regions throughout the state's wetlands, streambanks, and disturbed areas. Flowering from May to September, this plant produces white to pink flowers 3 to 5.8 centimeters long with a trumpet-like shape. Growing with climbing stems up to 4 meters in length, it spreads extensively through underground rhizomes. Its leaves are distinctive, with blades 4 to 8 centimeters long and often slightly lobed, creating a complex and wandering growth pattern. The plant's ability to climb and spread rapidly makes it a characteristic species of moist, disturbed habitats across California.
