Calystegia silvatica subsp. disjuncta
Large bindweed, Large Bindweed
Family: Convolvulaceae · Type: perennial · Not Native
Large bindweed is a naturalized perennial herb found in northern and central coastal California in disturbed places at elevations below 50 meters. Flowering with white flowers 55 to 75 millimeters long, this climbing vine has a striking trumpet-shaped bloom emerging from distinctive sac-like bracts that completely hide the calyx. Growing up to 6 meters in length, it spreads through an underground rhizome with flexible, climbing stems. Its leaves are distinctively lobed, typically 5 to 12 centimeters wide, emerging along the graceful climbing stems. When in flower, the plant creates dramatic white blossoms that stand out in disturbed landscapes.
