Spikeletrush sedge is a California native perennial sedge found in the White and Inyo Mountains in dry sagebrush scrub and conifer forests at elevations of 3,500 to 4,100 meters. Flowering in summer months, this plant produces reddish-brown spikelets in dense clusters 5 to 10 millimeters wide. Growing with thin rhizomes 0.6 to 1.8 millimeters thick, it forms clustered stems with narrow leaves. Its leaf blades are extremely slender, measuring just 0.5 to 1.5 millimeters wide with inrolled margins. The fruit is small, measuring 1.5 to 2 millimeters long, with a white to black perigynia and a short white-margined beak.
