Dusty-maidens is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, northern Coast Ranges, high Cascades, Sierra Nevada, Great Basin, and northern Desert Mountains in rocky or gravelly habitats at elevations of 900 to 3,500 meters. Flowering from May to September, this plant produces white to pale pink flowers in heads 1 to 2.5 centimeters wide, typically arranged in clusters of 2 to 25 on each stem. Growing 8 to 50 centimeters tall with generally 1 to 5 slender stems, it forms an upright, sparse herb with persistent hairy stems. Its leaves are finely divided, ranging from 1.5 to 12 centimeters long, with basal leaves sometimes withering as the plant matures. The fruit is a small, dry achene typical of its daisy family relatives.
