Long flowered rabbitbrush is a California native shrub found in the eastern desert mountains in rocky crevices, sagebrush, and pinyon/juniper woodland at elevations of 1,000 to 2,100 meters. Flowering from August to October, this plant produces yellow flowers in small clusters with involucres 9 to 15 millimeters long, featuring phyllaries in 5 to 6 distinct vertical ranks. Growing with unbranched stems 10 to 50 centimeters tall, it has a much-branched woody caudex and brittle stems covered in grayish hairs. Its leaves are oblanceolate, 1 to 3 centimeters long, flat, and rough-textured with a single prominent vein. The fruit is 5 to 6.5 millimeters long, cylindrical, and may have a few glandular hairs.
