Clarkia cylindrica subsp. clavicarpa

Family: Onagraceae · Type: annual · Native

Clarkia cylindrica is a California native annual found in the Sierra Nevada Foothills and Tehachapi Mountains in open grassland, woodland, and chaparral habitats at elevations below 1,000 meters. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces delicate flowers with a distinctive hypanthium longer than twice the width of its ovary. Growing with slender stems, it develops an elongated fruit that widens toward its tip. Its leaves are likely narrow and arranged alternately along the stem, typical of clarkia species. The plant's unique fruit shape and elongated floral structure distinguish it from other annual wildflowers in its habitat.
