Green rabbitbrush is a California native shrub found in the Tehachapi Mountains, Transverse Ranges, eastern Peninsular Ranges, southeastern Sierra Nevada, and Mojave Desert in rocky flats and slopes at elevations of 600 to 2,400 meters. Flowering from September to November, this plant produces yellow flowers in dense clusters about 5 to 9.5 millimeters long. Growing with much-branched, brittle green stems 20 to 150 centimeters tall that are gland-dotted, it forms a distinctive compact shape. Its narrow, thread-like leaves are approximately cylindrical, dark green, and resinous, measuring 10 to 35 millimeters long. The fruits are small, hairy, and 3 to 5 millimeters in length, topped with a brownish pappus.
