California rayless daisy is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges and northern Sierra Nevada Mountains in rocky crevices and open sites at elevations of 700 to 2,400 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces white to cream flowers with distinctive green-tipped phyllaries. Growing with slender stems 15 to 40 centimeters tall, it forms compact clusters in rocky habitats. Its leaves are typically narrow and elongated, clustered near the base of the plant with progressively smaller leaves up the stem. The fruit has 20 to 30 delicate pappus bristles, characteristic of its daisy-like ancestry.
