Del norte buckwheat is a rare (CNPS 2B.2) California native perennial found in northern California Coast (Del Norte County) in sandy habitats at elevations below 80 meters. Flowering from June to October, this plant produces delicate white flowers in small clusters approximately 3 to 3.5 millimeters long. Growing with slender stems 5 to 20 centimeters tall that are smooth and glabrous, it has a compact, low-growing form. Its basal leaves are 1 to 2 centimeters long, with soft whitish undersides and smooth upper surfaces, creating a subtle textural contrast. The plant forms compact clusters close to the ground in its coastal sandy environments.
