Heavenly wild buckwheat is a California native perennial found in central Sierra Nevada Mountains, specifically in Bloody Canyon of Mono County, growing on rocky terrain at elevations of 3,000 to 3,600 meters. Flowering from July to August, this plant produces small yellow flowers in compact clusters 1 to 2 centimeters wide. Growing as a compact cushion-like plant 5 to 10 centimeters in diameter with erect stems 1 to 6 centimeters tall that are noticeably hairy. Its small oval leaves are dense and tomentose, measuring just 2 to 5 millimeters long with soft, pale surfaces. The plant forms tight, low-growing mats characteristic of high alpine environments.
