Mountain meadow wild buckwheat is a California native annual found in the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains in sandy habitats at elevations of 2,800 to 3,500 meters. Flowering from July to August, this plant produces small white to pale cream-colored flowers in delicate clusters. Growing prostrate to ascending with slender stems 5 to 10 centimeters tall, it spreads low across sandy mountain meadows. Its leaves are small and compact, forming dense clusters close to the ground. The plant's distinctive prostrate growth habit allows it to thrive in challenging high-elevation sandy environments.
