Nelsons' sulphur flower is a California native shrub found in the Klamath Ranges on serpentine terrain at elevations of 1,500 to 2,300 meters. Flowering from July to September, this plant produces yellow flowers 5 to 7 millimeters long in delicate umbel-like clusters. Growing as a compact subshrub 1 to 2.5 decimeters tall with a spread of 2 to 7 decimeters, it features thinly hairy stems. Its leaves are small, measuring 1 to 1.5 centimeters long and white-tomentose underneath, creating a soft, textured appearance.
