Spreading wallflower is a naturalized annual found in the northern and central San Joaquin Valley and Modoc Plateau in disturbed areas and fields at elevations below 2,100 meters. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces light yellow flowers 6 to 8 millimeters long with narrow petals. Growing with erect stems 15 to 45 centimeters tall, it spreads widely in open habitats. Its leaves are linear to narrowly oblanceolate, 2 to 12 millimeters wide, with wavy edges and distinctive two-rayed hairs. The fruit develops as a slender 3 to 8 centimeter pod with four distinct angles and spreading seed structures.
