California blushing monkeyflower is a native perennial found in Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range areas in streambanks and seeps at elevations of 1,400 to 3,500 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces light pink flowers with dark purple stripes, creating a distinctive two-toned appearance. Growing 25 to 90 centimeters tall with hairy, rhizomatous stems, it forms dense clumps in moist mountain habitats. Its leaves are ovate to lanceolate, 30 to 90 millimeters long, with prominent palmately arranged 3 to 5 veins that clasp the stem. The flower's long pedicels extend 45 to 90 millimeters, with a hairy calyx featuring subequal lobes 4 to 6 millimeters long.
