Hardham's monkeyflower is a rare (CNPS 1B.1) California native annual found in chaparral openings at elevations of 300 to 500 meters. Flowering from March to May, this plant produces deep pink to purple flowers with notched lobes in delicate, branching arrangements. Growing with puberulent stems 2 to 13 centimeters tall, it appears as a diminutive and subtle botanical treasure. Its leaves are slender, ranging from 2 to 12 millimeters long and 1 to 3 millimeters wide, with a linear to oblanceolate shape. The fruit develops 2 to 5 millimeters long, nestled within a membranous calyx.
