Cut-leaved monkeyflower is a California native annual found in northern and central Sierra Nevada Foothills, Sierra Nevada, and San Joaquin Valley in granite seep habitats at elevations above 900 meters. Flowering from April to August, this plant produces delicate yellow flowers with a tube-throat 4 to 6 millimeters long. Growing 3 to 38 centimeters tall with slender stems that are glabrous to sparsely hairy, it has a distinctive growth habit. Its leaves are oblanceolate to nearly ovate, with some leaves pinnately narrowly lobed or deeply dissected, ranging 3 to 55 millimeters in length with petioles up to 35 millimeters long. The fruit is small, measuring 3 to 8 millimeters in length.
