Red rock canyon monkeyflower is a rare (CNPS 1B.1) California native annual found in washes at elevations of 600 to 915 meters. Flowering from March to May, this plant produces pale pink to rose-colored flowers with a broad yellow throat, approximately 16 to 25 millimeters wide. Growing 5 to 15 centimeters tall with glandular-puberulent stems, it has a delicate and compact growth habit. Its leaves are narrow, 5 to 22 millimeters long, ranging from linear-oblanceolate to elliptic in shape. The flower's distinctive calyx is 5 to 10 millimeters long with short, acute lobes that spread slightly from the pale tube.
