Sukdorf's monkeyflower is a California native annual found in the Sierra Nevada, Transverse Ranges, northern Sierra Nevada, San Jacinto Mountains, and northern desert mountains in moist clay soils at elevations of 1,100 to 4,000 meters. Flowering from April to August, this plant produces small yellow flowers with occasional red markings, borne on spreading pedicels 2 to 8 millimeters long. Growing as a diminutive plant 0.5 to 10 centimeters tall with minutely hairy stems, it forms compact clusters in open sunny areas. Its leaves range from 4 to 23 millimeters long, varying from linear to ovate shapes, with upper leaves directly attached to the stem. The delicate flowers have a tube-throat 4 to 6 millimeters long, with calyx lobes less than 1 millimeter and rounded or slightly pointed tips.
