Githopsis diffusa is a California native annual found in southern Sierra Nevada foothills, southern Coast Ranges in Monterey County, northern Channel Islands, Transverse Ranges, and Peninsular Ranges in moist, disturbed areas at elevations of 200 to 1,500 meters. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces light to deep blue flowers with funnel-shaped throats approximately 3 to 5 millimeters long. Growing with stems 3 to 30 centimeters tall, ranging from decumbent to erect and upper stems 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters wide. Its leaves measure 4 to 10 millimeters long with small bracts 4 to 7 millimeters in length. The plant's flower lobes are roughly 1.5 millimeters long, emerging from a narrow base with a distinctive funnel-shaped throat.
