Brickell goldenbush is a California native shrub found in the Mojave Desert on limestone outcrops and cliffs at elevations of 700 to 2,100 meters. Flowering from April to October, this plant produces yellow-glandular flower heads in compact clusters with lanceolate phyllaries that have recurved tips. Growing 2 to 8 decimeters tall with distinctively leathery leaves, it develops elliptic to obovate leaves with 2 to 8 spiny teeth along the margins. Its leaves are typically 10 to 35 millimeters long, featuring a distinctive spiny tip that adds textural interest to the shrub. The fruit is small, 2 to 4 millimeters long, with 5 white veins and a white to slightly brown pappus.
