Ivesia gordonii var. ursinorum
Alpine ivesia
Family: Rosaceae · Type: perennial · Native
Alpine ivesia is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges (Scott Mountains, Mount Eddy), northern and central Sierra Nevada (Sonora Pass, Alpine, Tuolumne counties), Warner Mountains, and eastern Sierra Nevada in open, dry, rocky ridges and slopes at elevations of 1,800 to 3,500 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces small white flowers with red-margined anthers. Growing with prostrate to ascending stems that are dark reddish in color, it spreads low across rocky terrain. Its leaves are finely divided, forming delicate, feathery clusters that help the plant blend into its alpine and subalpine habitats. The compact growth habit allows this ivesia to thrive in harsh, exposed mountain environments.
