Shockley's ivesia is a California native perennial found in northern and central Sierra Nevada and White and Inyo Mountains in rocky areas at elevations of 2,700 to 4,000 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces yellow flowers 5 to 10 millimeters wide with delicate oblanceolate petals. Growing in a matted form with spreading stems less than 15 centimeters tall, it forms a much-branched green caudex. Its leaves typically range 2 to 8 centimeters long, featuring 5 to 10 leaflets per side with small 1 to 5 millimeter lobes that are oblanceolate to obovate. The plant's fruit is approximately 2 millimeters long and light brown.
