Dune rush is a rare (CNPS 2B.2) California native perennial found in northern Coast Ranges in coastal peatlands and dune swales at elevations below 20 meters. Flowering time not specified, this plant produces dark brown flowers in compact clusters of 25 to 45 blooms. Growing 10 to 30 centimeters tall with slightly flattened green or bluish-green stems, it has distinctive leaf sheaths with small 2 to 3 millimeter appendages. Its leaves feature prominent crosswalls and a flattened structure, creating a distinctive linear appearance across coastal habitats. The plant's flower parts are relatively uniform, with perianth segments measuring 3 to 4.5 millimeters long.
