Milk kelloggia
Family: Rubiaceae · Type: perennial · Native
Milk kelloggia is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, northern Coast Ranges, California Ranges, Sierra Nevada, San Bernardino Mountains, Peninsular Ranges, and Modoc Plateau in open places within conifer forest at elevations of 700 to 3,110 meters. Flowering from May to August, this plant produces delicate pink or white flowers with slender tubes and lanceolate lobes. Growing with erect stems 15 to 40 centimeters tall that are slightly four-angled, it develops distinctive lanceolate to narrowly ovate leaves 19 to 38 millimeters long. Its leaves occasionally feature smaller axillary leaves, creating a layered appearance. The fruit is characterized by hooked hairs, which aid in seed dispersal.
