Lilac sunbonnet is a California native annual found in the southeastern Great Basin Desert and Mojave Desert in washes, flats, and gravelly to sandy slopes at elevations below 1,800 meters. Flowering from February to June, this plant produces lavender to purple flowers with delicate, tiny petals. Growing with slender stems 5 to 15 centimeters tall, it forms compact, low-growing clusters across desert landscapes. Its leaves are finely divided with threadlike segments, creating a soft, feathery appearance characteristic of desert wildflowers. The plant is widely distributed across gravelly desert terrain, extending into adjacent regions of Nevada.
