Trailing lantana is a naturalized annual found in the San Francisco Bay and southern California coastal regions on disturbed slopes and abandoned fields at elevations below 200 meters. Flowering all year, this plant produces small flowers in clusters with colors ranging from purple to lavender. Growing with spreading, low-growing stems that trail along the ground, it forms dense, mat-like ground cover. Its leaves are oval to lance-shaped, arranged opposite each other, with slightly toothed edges and a rough texture. The flower clusters are compact, with small bracts surrounding delicate blooms approximately 8 to 12 millimeters long.
