Kellogg's lily

Family: Liliaceae · Type: perennial · Native

Conservation status: CNPS 4.3

Kellogg's lily is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges and northern North Coast Ranges in gaps and roadsides within conifer forest or chaparral at elevations of 200 to 1,300 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces fragrant, widely bell-shaped flowers in pink to white with yellow midribs, hanging pendently with up to 27 blooms. Growing up to 2.1 meters tall with an upright-ovoid bulb, it develops leaves in 2 to 7 whorls around the stem. Its leaves are generally narrow and elliptic, 6 to 16.5 centimeters long with relatively straight margins. The flower's distinctive filaments spread outward, bearing pale red-orange or magenta anthers that produce vibrant orange pollen.
