Vollmer's lily is a California native perennial found in western Klamath Ranges in peatlands, streams, and springs at elevations of 100 to 1,200 meters. Flowering from July to August, this plant produces striking two-toned flowers with 4.8 to 8.3 centimeters long perianth parts, featuring darker flower tips and magenta or purple anthers with red-orange pollen. Growing up to 1.7 meters tall with a weakly clonal habit, it develops from a bulb with one to two-segmented scales. Its leaves are whorled or alternately arranged, appearing almost linear along the stem. The fruit develops 2.5 to 5 centimeters long, completing the plant's distinctive life cycle.
