Statice is a naturalized perennial found in coastal bioregions including Central Coast, San Francisco Bay, southern Coastal Ranges, and Southern California in disturbed coastal areas and roadsides at elevations below 300 meters. Flowering all year, this plant produces blue and white to pale yellow flowers in small clusters at branch tips. Growing with erect stems 20 to 50 centimeters tall that are distinctively narrow-winged and rough-hairy, it has an upright branching structure. Its leaves are obovate, 3 to 12 centimeters long, pinnately lobed with winged petioles, and covered in rough hairs. The flower clusters feature small bracts 5 to 7 millimeters long with irregular lobes and awned edges.
