Baja navarretia is a rare (CNPS 1B.2) California native annual found in the Tehachapi, Transverse, and Peninsular Ranges in wet areas within open forest at elevations of 1,400 to 2,300 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces lavender-white flowers 6 to 9 millimeters long with delicate needle-like petals. Growing 3 to 25 centimeters tall with ascending branches that are glandular-hairy, the plant has a distinctive form typically as wide as it is high. Its intricate leaves are 1 to 3 centimeters long, pinnately lobed with linear segments less than 1 millimeter wide, featuring needle-like lobes 3 to 5 millimeters long that are often simple or forked. Its outer bracts are leaf-like and 10 to 15 millimeters long, creating an intricate architectural structure.
