Sagebrush false-dandelion is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, northern Sierra Nevada, and Modoc Plateau in open, rocky places at elevations of 700 to 2,000 meters. Flowering from April to June, this plant produces yellow flowers in heads with distinctive purple-lined midribs on the outer phyllaries. Growing with stems 5 to 40 centimeters tall, often woolly beneath the flower head, it has an upright and delicate appearance. Its leaves reach 7 to 30 centimeters long, spreading in a loose rosette around the base of the plant. The fruit develops as a cylindric-fusiform structure 7 to 13 millimeters long, topped with a silvery pappus of 10 to 30 narrow, tapered bristles.
