Alpine mitrewort is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, northern Coast Ranges, high Cascades, Sierra Nevada, and Warner Mountains in streambanks and wet meadows at elevations of 1,500 to 2,500 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces green flowers with 5 to 10 linear petals arranged in delicate clusters. Growing 10 to 40 centimeters tall with an upright habit, it develops multiple slender stems emerging from its base. Its leaves feature broad ovate blades 1.5 to 8 centimeters wide with 5 to 9 sharply toothed lobes, typically with smooth petioles. The flower's hypanthium is 3 to 5 millimeters wide, with stamens positioned opposite the petals.
