Perideridia bolanderi subsp. bolanderi
Family: Apiaceae · Type: perennial · Native
Bolander's yampah is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, high Cascade Range, Sierra Nevada Mountains, Modoc Plateau, and northern eastern Sierra Nevada in meadows, scrub, and pine forest at elevations of 850 to 2,750 meters. Flowering from June to August, this plant produces small white flowers in dense umbels with 25 to 30 individual blossoms. Growing 15 to 80 centimeters tall with green, upright stems, it develops delicate, thread-like leaf segments ranging from 1 to 4 millimeters wide. Its leaves feature distinctive terminal segments 3 to 8 centimeters long and shorter lateral segments 0.5 to 3 centimeters in length, with lanceolate bracts that have uneven, scarious margins. The plant's intricate leaf structure and compact flower clusters make it a subtle but characteristic member of California's native plant communities.
