Platanthera elegans subsp. elegans (Coast piperia) is a native California herb in the Orchidaceae family, recognized by white/pale green flowers with dark midveins, long spurs, and musky fragrance.
This California native orchid is found in the North Coast, western Klamath Ranges, North Coast Ranges outer, Central Coast, and San Francisco Bay Area bioregions, growing in dry, open scrub and conifer forest below 500 meters. Flowering from May to September, it reaches 12 to 73 centimeters tall with musky-scented flowers, white to pale green lateral petals and lip, and a slender spur 7 to 14 millimeters long.
