Klamath gooseberry is a California native shrub found in the Klamath Ranges, northern Coast Ranges, and high Cascade Range in conifer forest edges at elevations of 150 to 1,200 meters. Flowering from April to May, this plant produces white to cream-colored flowers with soft sepals. Growing with spreading branches 50 to 100 centimeters tall, it forms a dense, multi-stemmed shrub. Its leaves are covered in sparse to dense soft hairs, with blades that are broadly rounded and slightly lobed. The shrub produces edible berries that are an important food source for local wildlife.
