Stachys ajugoides

Ajuga hedge nettle

Family: Lamiaceae · Type: perennial · Native

Ajuga hedge nettle is a California native perennial found in northwestern, south central, central western, and southwestern California in moist, open places that remain wet into summer at elevations below 1,000 meters. Flowering from June to September, this plant produces white to light pink flowers in small clusters of 3 to 6 blossoms. Growing with soft, hairy stems 10 to 60 centimeters tall that are generally decumbent, it spreads in low, sprawling patches. Its leaves are oblong, 1.5 to 7 centimeters long, with long silky hairs, wedge-shaped bases, and rounded tips. The soft, spreading growth and delicate white flowers make this hedge nettle a charming addition to moist California habitats.
