Pretty face, Pretty Face
Family: Themidaceae · Type: perennial · Native
Pretty face is a California native perennial found in the Klamath Ranges, Cascade Range, and Sierra Nevada in conifer forest edges, often in moist gravel or sand at elevations of 600 to 3,000 meters. Flowering from May to July, this plant produces distinctive yellow flowers that dry to a bluish tone, with spreading perianth lobes longer than the flower tube. Growing with smooth scapes 10 to 30 centimeters tall, it emerges from slender underground structures. Its leaves are grass-like, measuring 10 to 25 centimeters long and emerging from the base of the plant. Delicate flower filaments with blue or cream-colored anthers add to its intricate floral structure.
