Fumitory is a naturalized annual herb found in central and southwestern California in disturbed places at elevations below 1,000 meters. Flowering from April to July, this plant produces purple flowers with dark purple tips, approximately 5 to 9 millimeters long. Growing with stems 10 to 70 centimeters tall, it spreads with ascending branches. Its delicate compound leaves are finely divided, giving the plant a lacy, feathery appearance. The fruit develops with a distinctive slightly depressed shape around the stigma.
