Navarretia aeroides is a California native plant found in the Northwestern California, north and central Sierra Nevada Foothills, and Peninsular Ranges bioregions in forest openings on clay-rich, often reddish soils at elevations from 400 to 1,900 meters. Flowering from June to July, it grows as an erect, skunk-scented plant 3 to 9 or more centimeters tall with spreading to ascending branches and pinnately lobed cauline leaves. Its head-like inflorescences bear flowers with a white tube and bluish to nearly white throat and lobes.
