Merced river collinsia is a California native found in the central Sierra Nevada High, near El Portal in Mariposa County, on exposed metamorphic scree and loose talus at elevations from 520 to 650 meters. Flowering in May, it grows 16 to 40 centimeters tall with branched glandular stems and linear-elliptic to linear leaves. Its white corolla measures 7 to 9 millimeters, with violet midveins on the lobes and lips that turn pale violet with age.
