Villous-bracted monkeyflower is a California native annual found in wet places at elevations of 30 to 1,900 meters. Flowering from April to July, this plant produces yellow flowers with soft-hairy bracts in small racemes. Growing with erect to ascending stems 5 to 70 centimeters tall, it has a fibrous root system. Its leaves are ovate to round, typically 5 to 35 millimeters long, with crenate edges and occasionally irregularly small-lobed bases. The plant produces small fruits 5 to 7 millimeters long, with asymmetrically swollen calyces that have unequal lobes.
